I have a PNY GTX-465 (Xlr8) on Centos Linux 4.7 (no patches or upgrades).
I have loaded 180.51, 256.44, and 256.53 drivers. In all cases, this card is slower than my PNY GTX-9800 (Xlr8) for my software. glxgears was running at about 15,600 with the 9800 and 16,600 with the 465. (here the 465 is a little faster). So what is going on? Mike |

OK, fair enough. I am an end user, not a developer for this device. Based on that comparision chart (http://www.nvidia.com/object/graphic...s_buy_now.html), I am estimating that the performance upgrade I should see in my scene generator should be about 2x (referencing the 9800 GT, though mine is a 9800 gtx).
What is odd, is my frame rates went down! I know you do not know about my scene generator, but where I was at about 148 Hz, I dropped to 80 hz with the 465! Not at all what I was expecting. So, I was wondering if anyone else had seen this. Or is it possible I have a bad card? Or could it be related to my archaic OS (Centos 4.7)? Thanks for any advice. If someone has a linux based benchmark that they know the 465 results for, please advize. At least this way I should have a data point to work towards. Mike ![]() |

The ONLY thing I can draw from this is that my scene generator is somehow not optimized to work well with the GTX 465.
Whaa In my scene generator example (which obviously you know nothing about), a complex example I use runs at 160 fps with the 9800 and 70 fps with the 465. What if anything could I look for? A compiler flag? etc? Mike |

Have you checked that PowerMizer works correctly? Sometimes there are issues with it and GPUs never reach the highest power level.

I have read about powermizer issues. But I can tell that's not the issue. I can set to max performance and all works fine. Board even heats up. Plus, the benchmark proves the 465 is better than the 9800 (as it should). It would seem to me that the fact that my scene generator (developed on much older OpenGL standards) has a problem. But what?

Well, providing s/w is not possible. When you say it can be many things, could you narrow that down it a bit to something I can go look for?
