The patch did not fix the number of cities bug for me... still can't continue my game... ughhh. Gonna shelf this game for awhile, I don't have time to waste on bugs.

maybe your save is corrupted? i have not run into any problems on large maps other than gifted cities, and that was pre-patch.

Apperently what I got Friday was only a quick fix... the real patch came out Monday I guess. When I have some free time I will have to see if the 60mb patch fixes it. If not, I guess I will have to try a new game and see...

Had to start a new game... guess the old saves don't really get fixed with the new patch (even locked up at the same point on a different PC with the new patch). Starting a game from scratch. Huge map, 20 Civs + 25 city states. Hopefully all goes well this time!

This game has been working great with the latest patch that came out! Finally made it through an entire game on a huge map!

Digging up an old thread, but has anyone got any pointers for when your starting off? I've restarted about three times now. lol

Can be as liberal and democratic as hell and before long everyone sets on me, I just don't get it.

Was up ALL night playing this, it's just too good.

I honestly thought I would hate it, I impulsively bought it. First Civ game i've played actually.

Yeah I have not played this a whole lot but when I do it's usually a 6 to 8 hour marathon. As for diplomacy the key is city-states and having something that gives you a bargaining position with other civs. You can't just be nice to everyone and expect them to leave you alone. Even if you're going for a cultural or diplomatic victory, you need to maintain at least enough military units to keep your cities safe.

I put many more hours into Civ 4, but I like Civ 5 more. Perfect balance of all the best parts of the series. You picked a good time to try it out.

There's a reason there's an alarm clock built into Civ games.

Got to 1500 AD or so and im just broke with unhappy people, even though I have a bustling empire with lots of culture and pretty scientific. Really struggling to get the balance. Unfortunately I never came across any city states on this particular go, was a strange setup tbh.

I just don't know how the AI gets its crazy strong military so fast, and im going playing on standard. Just doesn't seem to be enough to keep people happy, only so many Colosseum you can build and poxy Circus. lol

Not getting many natural luxury resources to kick start my games often neither and they always play hardball on trading so its pretty pointless alot of the time.
