hi all
i bought the asus eee 1215N + nvidia ION2 recently and i have some troubles to get it work, the main problems seems to be the shared irq with the onboard intel graphic card, i try all the suggestions of the README, Chapter 8 and any of them works. i have the nvidia 256.53 driver. when i try to start the X i have this, NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Input/output error). (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device PCI:4:0:0. (EE) NVIDIA(0): Please check your system's kernel log for additional error (EE) NVIDIA(0): messages and refer to Chapter 8: Common Problems in the (EE) NVIDIA(0): README for additional information. (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device! (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. and in dmesg i have this: NVRM: failed to copy vbios to system memory. NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x30:0xffffffff:819) NVRM: rm_init_adapter(0) failed i also wan't to disable the onboard intel graphic card, if any of you know how, please give me a hand with that. more detailed information in the attached the bug report. thanks in advance. |

The Eee 1215N is an Optimus laptop, and I'm afraid that Optimus is not supported in Linux right now.

Is there anyway with the 1215, through a combo of bios settings + drivers installed, to only use the nVidia Ion chip with Ubuntu?
I would really like to use the HDMI port and connect it to an external display digitally. I'm fine with the optimus technology not working, but if there is a way that I can atleast manually switch between the two cards working, that would greatly help. The first time I installed the nVidia driver in Ubuntu the screen would just go black and I could no longer boot into Ubuntu. Thanks in advance. |

Is there any news about when there will be a driver for ION2? I also have the 1215n notebook waiting for this driver to appear

Check this out: http://linux-hybrid-graphics.blogspot.com/. I think people have gotten the 1215N to work.
Edit: Hmm, a quick look shows they've only managed to power down the nvidia chip. It's the 1015PN that works. |
