Default RH9 integrated geforce fx 5200, bad PCI ids?

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble getting an integrated geforce working...

I have a Leadtek Winfast A340 TDH motherboard with an integrated GeForce FX 5200.

I'm running RedHat 9.

Redhat detects the onboard video as an i810 card during installation and gets it working.

I download the nvidia drivers and install it fine.

I edit the x config to use the nvidia driver (and remove the video definition using the i810 driver).

Unfortunately when I start up X it says that there are no devices found and aborts.

I suspect a problem with the PCI ids because if I do a lspci I get:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82865G [Springdale-G] Chipset Host Bridge (rev 02)
00:02.0 Display controller: Intel Corp. 82865G [Springdale-G] Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB USB (Hub #1) (rev 02)
00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB USB (Hub #2) (rev 02)
00:1d.2 USB Cont... etc

doing a lspci -n I get:
00:00.0 Class 0600: 8086:2570 (rev 02)
00:02.0 Class 0380: 8086:2572 (rev 02)
00:1d.0 Class 0c03: 8086:24d2 (rev 02)
00:1d.1 Class 0c... etc

Shouldn't device 00:02.0 have nvidia's vendor id (10de)?
(There are no devices with 10de as the vendor id.)

If this is what is causing the nvidia drivers to not find the device is there some way to force it to recognise it?
Or, is there some other problem?

Thanks
Daniel

Question

Oh, I forgot to mention that 'insmod nvidia' fails as well, so I don't think it is an X config problem.

insmod nvidia

Using /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o
Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o will taint the kernel: non-GPL license - NVIDIA
See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for information about tainted modules
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

The last line of dmesg:
0: nvidia: no NVIDIA graphics adapter found

Any ideas?

Thanks
Daniel

Can you attach the output of 'lspci -vvv'?

On further research, an A340 TDH is a separate add-in card, not a motherboard. Are you sure that's what you have?

Red face

By joves, do I feel like a monkey, or what?

You are right of course, that's not what I have... my only excuse is that I blindly trusted someone telling me there was an integrated nvidia gpu, which there ain't, and being given the winfast packaging at the same time.

My sincere apologies for wasting your time, and thanks for the help.

I'm now going to slink off into a dark corner...
