Default SSD Setup - OCZ Vertex 120GB

Hi Guys,
Just picked up a OCZ Vertex 120GB.
I am going to be installing Win 7 64bit and I'm running a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R board.

I just wondered if there are any specific setup / format procedures when I install this.

It's going to be part of a completely new build, running as my OS drive.

Thanks for your help!

Set AHCI in bios
disable defrag
disable indexing
disable hibernation

I disabled search also, plenty fast without.

Thanks Grey
Im guessing the other 3 are in the drive properties within windows?

Once AHCI is enabled in the BIOS will the windows installation see the drive ok?

Can I update the drive's firmware after windows installation?

Defrag is under services - mine was set to manual, I disabled it to be safe.

indexing is under drive properties.

Hibernation is under advanced power options. Here's a good tutorial for that.

Mine did - very fast install too.

If needed, I believe there's a way to do that before install, I would just make certain it's required first. I didn't have to on mine, so I'd rather someone else give you advice on that.

Good luck with it, awesome upgrade.

Sometimes there are issues installing Windows with AHCI on and you may have to install in IDE and then enable the AHCI service manually in Windows before switching the bios over to AHCI mode. I think it has to do with the controller on the ssd or the sata controller on the motherboard. Seems like you should be fine with a new OCZ drive as I think they ditched the JMicron controllers.

And like I said in the other thread I don't really recommend disabling indexing but just rather limiting the indexing locations. Some features/programs use indexing like Outlook and the start menu search.
