Yep,

Another funny effect of the second bug is, while your screen is blank, if you open your TV and fire up X (blindly at console), you'll actually see your X screen on your TV...

note: I have never configured TV-out on this machine. It switches automagically from VGA to TV while exiting X.

I can't reproduce this problem anymore though since my new nvidia card just hangs like the first bug

This might be related to the hang somehow, as it seems it happens in the exact same place, i.e. right after you exit X.

Andy: have fun

I am away from my computer with the second bug until Saturday, so I will test out the tv out thing then. I had never connected a tv to it yet so maybe x will show up on that.

Andy?

Any news on this?
Could you dupe it?
Could it be fixed?

Could you make it to an official web page so 10,000 people don't post about this single problem here every day?

I know I'm harassing you but it's for a good cause

Thank you.

But do u have a clue 'bout what the cause might be?
The problem is there's no logging whatsoever when the system hangs...it just leaves u in a state of total 'WHAT!?!' For now, the only clue seems to be the involvement of tv-out...
[/harass mode]

This should be a sticky topic, judged by the number of threads opend on this topic.

Not as of yet.

You'll find that most system hangs will do this, no matter what the cause.

Yeah, I know, but that's just the problem. If the system hangs, it's very hard to troubleshoot if you don't have any error messages. It took me 3 days to find out it was the tv-out thingy...
Unplug the damn thing and everything was fine, except the fact that I cannot use tvout.

For me, installing older drivers resolves the problem.

Oh! What a surprise...
I've told my problem at http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...threadid=16383

It seems to be the same thing. Thanks by the tip.

I have a Chaintech manufactured Geforce 4MX 440 with 64MB SDRAM (TV-OUT, CRT-OUT).
PC: Via Apollo Pro chipset with Pentium III (slot1) 512Mb SDRAM 133Mhz, 512Kb cache.

I have also an AverMedia TVCapture98 with VCR and since I installed drivers from Nvidia, overlay don't work with the TV programs, and XawTV crashes at start. Disabling it (to nv) solves the problem.

Default It Run's Now ! :)

Older drivers do not repair the problem.

I installed Kernel 2.4.21 now and functioned it.

Test's with kernel versions 2.4.18 and 2.4.20 always resulted in a total crash after X will leave.
