Re: problems escaping from X
Has anyone ever found a solution to this?
I just upgraded to Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 and the exact same problem still remains. Exiting X crahes the whole machine when using the stock Ubuntu kernel (2.6.15 in this case) and the stock Ubuntu nVidia GLX install. Do more recent nVidia drivers fix this? Last time I tried they did not change anything.
Just tried the latest 8762 driver. No change. There is something, I have no idea what, in these large stock kernels that makes the nVidia drivers crash. Is this a bug in the kernel or a bug in the nVidia driver that has been around for what appears to be years or is it a hardware problem with these nForce systems? Any way it's messed up and it's been like this for far too long.
