Hi Guys,
I just swapped out my 512MB 8800GT's (SLI) for a single 1GB GTX460. Now I appreciate this would give me around the same performance (as I intend to go SLI with the 460 eventually) but it appears its actually worse!? I ran the unigine benchmark and my 8800GT's gave me a 41.1fps average and a score of 1036 yet the new single GTX460 has just given me a 30.9 average and a score of 778. Is something going wrong here? (all tests run at the same settings, 1920x1200) Any ideas? My other specs are as follows if you need them: Core 2 E6550 @ 2.63 GHz Gigabyte N650-SLI-DS4L 8GB Corsair XMS2 150GB 10k Raptor X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Tagan 530W Modular PSU Thanks for your help |

My very first thought is your proc. I don't think I've seen (personally) any other benches using a dual core proc. Just a guess, but I bet others say the same thing.

Thanks grey, but would that explain the difference between the cards!?

The best test is to compare at lower resolutions. If I remember right, the lowest rez will show the cpu limitation as your cards really don't stretch their legs until the higher resolutions.
You would probably see the 460 begin to overtake the 8800s at 1680x1050 or so, using AA and higher settings...I think that's right ![]() Let me google for a sec.. ![]() EDIT: Can't find a direct comparison using your cards - but if you get the same fps at lower rez that you do at higher, then it's probably your cpu. |

Thanks.
So if I run the test again and drop to a lower resolution in the settings then it will produce the same score and fps (if its my cpu) ? |

A new CPU would help your benchmarks .The i7 or i5 would increase your scores ,but that would mean a upgrade in the motherboard and memory.Just overclocking would help alot unless that all it will overclock. But looking at the benchmarks the GTX 460 should be just as if not faster in games. I had a E8400 that overclock to 4.4gis on air with a after market cooler and that increased my benchmarks quite a bit ,plus it had 6mb L2 cache. That would be the cheapest way to go to get better scores in games I don't know about unigine benchmark but a E8400 for $170 and overclock to 4 gigs and overclock your GTX 460 to around 800 you will see better marks.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...ator,2458.html Look for 9800gx2 which is equal to 8800 gt sli in a single card slot, you will see 8800gt sli is still very powerful even in today standard, its performance match to GTX 470 If you can endure heat and power consumption, 8800gt sli is still the better way to go, last but not least, if you hardcore gamer, you will know some game Geforce dont have sli profile |

GTX460 can beat 8800GT SLI at 19' or even higher resolution...
of course ,it also gets dx11 actually... ![]()

That's complete BS. Not a chance that 800gt SLI would be faster than single 460...
Tomshardware sucks and i don't trust them for a second due to earlier experiences. As you can see the dual 9800gt SLI (actually even slightly faster than 8800gt) manages 21.33 fps in crysis on Highest in 1920x1200 with no AA while the 460 in the second picture manages 22 fps and thats on the same settings PLUS 4xAA. 4xAA, which more than makes up for the few extra fps that Warhead surpasses original Crysis thanks to optimization and tweaked settings before release. Also note here how 5870 and 4870 has about the same FPS on the both performance charts, which imo really shows that the 460 is good to keep 22 fps on those settings when 4xAA is applied, if u took the AA away the the comparison would also be more fair. So i'd say the 460 is definitely faster than dual 8800gt.
