Some cracking benchies there.

At the 539 price point it's a superb deal. Now let us make our own profiles in the drivers and i'll buy one. lol

Multi display card of choice though.

Just went fast over couple of the reviews. Little disappointed about the 699 USD MSRP, was hoping the price is going to be more like $599.

Going to think about it if I should buy the card but it's my only upgrade option. The fact is I don't need any upgrade for my 1080p gaming resolution with HD 5970.

I like the extra 2GB GDDR5 on HD 6990 and about 2x better tessellation, probably the only reason I might upgrade.

EDIT
I also like the dual BIOS switch, in position 1 it can run the HD 6990 at the same core speeds and voltages as the HD 6970.

5970 is still a monster card too tbh, not sure if it's worth the step up.

I wish they would work on their reference coolers too. If your selling a premium card at that price point, would it be so difficult to put a nice twin fan solution on it. An extra $5 on the cost won't make a difference if your already willing to pay that price to start with.

Most likely there was no room for two fans and 2 heatsinks. So 2 heatsinks and one fan was better option in order to keep the card dual slot.

IF I buy the card I hope Artic Cooling will design new cooler for the HD 6990, something like the Accelero XTREME Plus which will probably turn in 3 slot card.

EDIT
Something like the limited edition Sapphire Toxic HD 5970 4GB. It is 3 slot card and the cost was 1099 USD

Compared to that the Accelero XTREME Plus is only $75 plus $699 for the HD 6990

That would be immense. Or get Noctua to design them something.

The Overclock3D.net HD 6970 video reviews shows there was no room to add another fan and keep the card 2 slots.

Looks nice but isn't it more expensive than 2 6970? Whats the point?

That's the price you pay for engineering. It's basically 2 cards in one, so it saves you the hassle of setting up a crossfire system with 2 cards taking up 4 slots. For some people, that's a big deal.

As for me, I'm not really sure where I stand. It's definitely the new King of GPU's (for now), but the length of the card is crazy. I am impressed that they kept it under 375-watts TDP though. That's quite an accomplishment considering that a dual 6970 setup uses around 450 watts. I want to see if Nvidia can do the same and get performance greater than AMD's setup using the same TDP limit. Guess we'll know in about a week.
