A workmate has an out of warranty DELL with broken OS,The partitions all say Fat32 and there's nothing happening ,This is a while after a Viral infestation that was left to fester.
Even if she found an XP disk (which she doesn't have) would it do her any good as her key is DELL OEM? (I guess)

Considering that she's running XP they may no longer stock them. I've ran into this more than a few times. And it's not consistent- meaning they'll have them still for some models, but not for others. And not just DELL but any OEM. If she had an XP disc, legit copy... the OEM key should work, so long as it's the same version (if the key is for home don't buy a pro copy). |

Although she cant make a distinction between Office and Windows at the moment... "I have an Office disk ,Will that work? Why not? Its microsoft!" Also she might have trouble if its the PC she imported when the dollar was down against the pound all those years ago...

Here's the thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=138882 Basically if it says XP Home on the side an XP Home OEM disk will work, Dell branded or not. Obviously if it's Pro you need a Pro OEM disk. Retail disks will not work with an OEM key. In that thread I showed everyone how to tell if their disk was OEM or retail.

Assuming they still have them they should be able to sell her one. If it's so far out of warranty I doubt it would be free. Disks like that from most companies aren't expensive when you have to buy them.

Even if the disk was free they'd make their money from the phone-call ...

If you have an copy of XP home OEM, use that with her key, problem solved.
Actually, I think I have an ISO of one somewhere, and it has SP2 integrated. |
