I've got some news for those of you waiting impatiently for more info on NVIDIA's GTX 580. Some of this information may have been reported previously, but some of it may be new to you. I'd have to place this somewhere in between rumor and fact, as this info is the result of some thorough cross-checking at more than a few Chinese websites (which can be a bit exhausting).

* Tentative Launch date: Nov 8

* GPU Code name is either GF100b or GF110

* 512 SP, 128 texture units

* 244W TDP, lower than GTX 480

* 384-bit 1.5gb GDDR5

* 772/1544 core/memory speeds

* Addition of SPs, bandwidth and core optimizations should net a 20% performance improvement

Interestingly, there is still speculation as to whether this new GPU is going to utilize a 32nm or 40nm manufacturing process. I'd have thought that would be one of the first-known facts about this upcoming high-end "Halo GPU". To me, just the fact that this tidbit is still a mystery points to the former rather than the latter.

Is this a situation where it might be better to just keep your GTX 480 and overclock it, or wait for AMD's HD 6970 to see just what kind of competition we're looking at as we head into the holiday season? It's up to you, but you can be certain that we will report on any new information in the coming days/weeks.

This one is easy to refute: This will have to be 40nm. No foundry offers 32nm technology. Principally, TSMC has said that they will skip 32nm and jump directly to 28nm in 2011. As nVidia still uses TSMC exclusively so far, this has to be a 40nm part. Same reason AMD 6XXX series is on 40nm.

Hmmm not bad... 244W vs... 250? I would laugh like hell if not for the fact it has higher clocks and the full core count enabled, so... ok, they improved the design but still... meh -.-

Reportedly that's from a Chinese review guide. Idk, I thought the 480 did really whup on 5870 like that @ high rez with extreme tessellation?

Actually that is real picture. Many reviewers do not really show real difference between HD5870 and GTX480. ATI card is just terrible all over the place compared to HD5870. Battlefield BC2, Batman, F1 2010 (constant lock ups), Medal of Honor lack of AA, lack of AA in many games, Metro 2033 compared to GTX480 performance is joke. I played on HD5870 Crossfire setup and i did play on SLI GTX480 setup and it was different like day and night.
