Couldn't help it and got a GT430.

Both TrueHD and DTS-HD MA work with this card (DTS-HD MA didn't on my GT220)

The GT430 is much smaller than the GT220, and according to the specs uses less power, so not too bad of a deal, and I needed a video card for one of the PC at work. Looks like it won a 2nd hand GT220

Removal of the partial support is unlikely, as this passthrough stuff is implemented in the open source ALSA driver.

I guess this all but confirms that the 200 series hw (or a majority of those) is somehow buggy in regards to HD passthrough (and hence doesn't work with all receivers) and this is why it is not enabled on windows on those chipsets.

For the record, jyavenard, what is the vendor id in your /proc/asound/NVidia/codec#0 with your new card?

Aren't you relying on some features provided by the alsa driver?

For HDMI audio in general, yes, but not for HD passthrough, specifically, AFAICS.

My sound system shows PCM but I can't get any sound to work over HDMI, not PCM nor HD files. I tried to output with vlc, mplayer and aplayer.

My little ION2 nettop had no problems with either sample. Both TrueHD and DTS-MA samples played and the format displayed correctly on both receivers.

Trying to help out.

I heard static on both samples, but my receiver did not light up DTS-HD or TrueHD. It said PCM both times.

I do see "HBR" on the Pincap output line.

Any chance of getting bitstreaming out of my MacMini?

ASRock has released the new Vision 3D NetTop model. It's packed with the NVidia GT425M and HDMI 1.4a. The GT425M does support bitstreaming. However, is it currently working under Linux?

While I can't provide a definitive answer (no one has tested GT425M on linux), I think it should work fine as it officially supports bitstreaming. (all the issues so far have been with cards that are not officially supported)

Note that the application support is quite nonexistent at the moment, though (this will change in the near future, I believe).

I have been following this with interest since I bought all new hardware a while back to 'standardize' my MythTV frontends on VDPAU. It turns out that all three of my systems are C79s (a 9300 IGP, a 9400 IGP and a Zotac MAG) and I won't be enjoying these HD codecs when they are implemented unless I am willing to replace otherwise perfectly working hardware. Now, I am just following along waiting for a followup to these:

You'll get E-AC-3 and DTS-HD under 6.144Mbps on those cards, though (my post at XBMC forum), but not TrueHD or full DTS-HD MA.

Indeed, an official list would be appreciated. I can understand NVIDIA's need to be careful, though, as it wouldn't be very good to have people buying hardware based on wrong info in some list...

As far as I know, ION2 has the same issues as GeForce 200 series, i.e. it works with some receivers but not all. GT430 should work fine, though. I believe it is likely that other GeForce 400 series GPUs also work on all receivers.
