SLI GTX 570 SuperClocked or SLI GTX 580 stock for my setup?

Hi, I have a BIG dilemma that I will have to solve today...

I have a C2Q Q9550@3.4, Asus Striker II nForce 780i and 4GB DDR2 1000.
I might possibly upgrade to i7 950, but all depends on my budget.

I have a tripple LCD setup and mostly game in 3840x1024 or 5040x1050 (via Matrox triplehead).

My question is, if I should spend $1040 on 2x GTX580 or $750 on 2x GTX570 EVGA SuperClocked.

$290 means a LOT in my current financial situation, but so does my gaming experience...

I was thinking, maybe my CPU is too much of a bottleneck, maybe even a potential i7 950 would be a bottleneck, but then again, can CPU really be a bottleneck at those insane resolutions?

What would you recommend?

I'm currently in USA and I'm leaving the country in 10 days, so I need to order from newegg today in order to get the cards.

What should I do???

P.S. I'm upgrading from SLI GTX280.
I play mostly FPS, racing and GTA4.

I have a motherboard that supports triple-SLI!
If I'm not mistaken, GTX570 can indeed do triple-SLI, so I might just add a third card later, if I choose 2x 570 now.

Wouldn't actualy 3x 570 make more sense now then 2x 580? From what I've seen in the reviews, the important games today scale really well on GTX5xx triple-SLI setups.

I would rather do 2x580 SLI. 3x570 sounds like it would be a huge waste of power and heat most of the time. A 580 SLI setup with be a little bit better in terms of power consumption.

Well, I had to decided in the morning I decided to go with the Superclocked GTX570's. My budget simply doesn't allow me 2 GTX 580 right now and I cannot game with just one 580...

I have a giant Silverstone TJ07 case with CPU under water and lots of airflow, so I guess heat with 3 GTX570 would still be OK, if I choose to add another one in the future.

I hope that my Corsair HX1000 PSU will handle it.

Good choice!!

The superclocked 570s almost give the same performance as the vanilla 580s so they are not worth the extra cash.

You do realize you can easily overclock a stock 580 to superclocked levels and not pay the difference in price tag.

The concept of Superclocked is retarded.

It's a shame nvidia requires SLI for three screens. Because I believe a single 580 is more than powerful enough for your needs. So two 570s are more than adequate. You will be CPU limited but not terribly bad at that resolution.

Guess what... I bought 2x 580 in the end. I mean, this is how the whole recession started - people living beyond their means and buying stuff they cannot afford.. I guess I'm not a role model. And I paid in cash

Instead of buying the most expensive 570, I went for the cheapest 580 (Galaxy), as they became suddenly available and I got a Mafia 2 coupon with it - a game I wanted to buy anyway.

I'm also planning to upgrade to i7 next year. I guess I have to know...

Man, this addiction to powerfull hardware is killing me!!!

OK, for real now. I've been on widescreengaming.com before making my ultimate choice and realised, that at resolutions over 3840x1024 the smaller memory with 320bit might actually make a substantial difference. In 5040x1200, it's all about the VRAM. FPS go like 70% from 1920x1200, so CPU stops being the main bottleneck. And trust me, a single GTX 580 is really not enough for surround gaming, if you want steady 60fps.

I guess it depends what games you play. You said racing games and to be honest so many are just console ports, seems like a 580 could do it (it's not like adding a second card helps you with vram).
