Default VDPAU fails with 8400M G

I cannot see any videos with VDPAU. I'm using Archlinux.

This is my graphic card:
Quote:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation G86 [GeForce 8400M G] [10de:0428] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
And this is my vainfo output:
Quote:
libva: libva version 0.31.1
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva: Trying to open /usr/lib/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so
vainfo: vdpau_driver.c:194: vdpau_common_Initialize: Assertion `vdp_status == VDP_STATUS_OK' failed.
Aborted
This is what I have installed on my machine:
local/libva 1.0.6-1
local/libvdpau 0.4-1
local/vdpau-video 0.7.2-1
local/nvidia 260.19.29-1
local/nvidia-utils 260.19.29-1

In SMPlayer I went to Options -> Preferences -> General -> Video Tab and selected vdpau as Output Driver, but when I try to reproduce a mkv in 720p, it doesn't show any image but only sound.

I also tried to put the following in ~/.mplayer/config:
Code:
vo=vdpau
vc=ffmpeg12vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,ffh264vdpau,
And this is the output:
Quote:

I believe you have to add nvidia-bug-report.log.gz and VDPAU debug output, please read:

libva is not required for vdpau to work with mplayer. Mplayer uses its own vdpau module (or ffmpegs), while libva uses vdpau as backend, exposing only a subset of vdpau's functions.
I did not have working libva (got the same error as you), but smplayer worked perfectly with vdpau.
I use Debian Squeeze and i installed the driver from the script from the site.

@walp any luck providing those debug messages? We have a guy in the bugtracker having the same problem with the same card model

Sorry for the 1 month delay response.

I upgraded my Arch system today and tried to reproduce again video in MKV with VDPAU but it still fails.

Video: MKV with codec H264 - MPEG4 AVC (part10) (avc1), resolution 720p
MPlayer SVN-r32792-4.5.2

mplayer -vc ffh264 video.mkv
Plays the video perfectly, video and sound, and the output relative to VDPAU in MPlayer is this:
Quote:
VDPAU capture: Enabled
vdp_imp_device_create_x11(0xa4cf7e0, 0, -, -)
VDPAU nvidia: Version: NVIDIA VDPAU Driver Shared Library 260.19.36 Tue Jan 18 17:30:59 PST 2011

ioni, I posted the debug messages. In this thread of 2009 Stephen Warren said that a bug was already filed for this issue:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=130035

But, I don't know if it's the same problem, my card can't reproduce VDPAU yet.

walp, please see my first post here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=130690

Can you please try driver 185.18.14 and post the error messages VDPAU prints?

One thing to check though: Was your video card advertized as supporting PureVideo? If not, the error you see may be expected. Does HW-accelerated video decoding work in Windows?

Thanks.
