GNOME shell (Fedora 15 alpha) with the current beta drivers (270.30, kernel 2.6.38) runs pretty slowly on my GT 420M and flickers sometimes when switching apps. OpenGL games and KDE4 seems to work fine though. Is there any xorg.conf magic I could try? Will there be a new driver release before gnome shell finalizes?

My guess is that the card is always running on the lowest speed. When playing games, the GPU and RAM run on higher clocks so performance is better.

Works much better now with 270.41.03. The flickering is gone (mostly caused by the notification area). And Gnome Shell is much faster. Thanks for the update.

NVIDIA needs to fix the message tray icon drawing bug. It's slows down the overview animation terribly. I was told that the NVIDIA driver does some kind of drawing very slow and that's why GNOME Shell has this issue with the binary.
Nouveau driver works just fine |
