Yes, but Intel adopts the latest and greatest regardless. Luckily, Sandy Bridge has already been spec'd out (with an onboard memory controller) so I wouldn't expect to see Intel adopt DDR4 until their next chip.

Yeah with the memory controller on die a new processor will be required. if it's a years time i think i will keep my core quad a while longer. Would feel crap buying DDR3 memory new processor, motherboard only to find out my next upgrade will be a further complete rebuild of processor, motherboard and memory. Think i will get another 4GB DDR 2 memory to keep me going till then.
