Default Fedora 14 and 8400M GT freezes the laptop -- kernel panic

Hello,

I have a SONY VAIO VGN-AR41L with 8400M GT installed.

I have followed the following instructions in order to install the official nvidia drivers:
http://www.if-not-true-then-false.co...ouveau-driver/

The drivers installed but the problem is that after some minutes of successful operation the laptop freezes(maybe a kernel panic). Before that the screen starts to have some dots on it, a distortion and a lack of performance. After that the laptop freezes no keyboard no menus - I have to remove the battery and unplug it.

Is this a problem with the specific card (8400M GT) or am I doing something wrong? Please help me.

Thanks

Can you attach the output of nvidia-bug-report.sh

Also please reference the original wiki to get update info http://rpmfusion.org/Howto/nVidia

[ 0.000000] Notice: NX (Execute Disable) protection cannot be enabled: non-PAE kernel!

This is probably unrelated but you can give a try using kernel-PAE varriant which match better your CPU features. Then you might need to repost a new report.
yum install kmod-nvidia-PAE kernel-PAE

Now everything seems fine with regards on 'packaging side' of the official driver from nvidia by rpmfusion.org

OK. I have uploaded the new bug-report with PAE kernel.

Hi there,

Im having a very similar issue on similar video hardware. ive removed fedora 12 and installed fedora 14, together with nvidia drivers from rpmfusion. I have 2 video cards, and 3 screens on this system. Basic video seems to work fine - I can run for a while with terminals, desktop apps, and animated icons like those in this post box in the browser, but as soon as in this case the browser trys some more technical graphical effect the mouse cursor becomes jittery (as in can see the system is locking momentarily) several times, then it locks hard. No keyboard, no mouse, pressing caps lock does not light the caps lock led.

in googling for info i found this thread, so am providing the bug report log here also in hope that it may be helpful.

thanks for looking!

update: I left my pc for 5 mins and came back with nothing happening visually on the screen and the same crash occurred. This is with a 64bit kernel, on a quad core, with two 8400 GS pci-express cards. Also selinux is disabled.

further update: through much experimenting, changing features, with/without xinerama... I managed to get my machine stable by disabling the 3rd screen. Now the 2nd video card is present in the machine, but only 1 card is in use with dual heads running twinview. It has been running like this now for several hours with no problems (other than I would like my 3rd screen to work as it did on fedora 12 with the nvidia drivers of the time).
