Default Help needed installing Nvidia Geforce GT 325M driver in Ubuntu 10.10

I've tried to install the Nvidia driver for my Nvidia Geforce GT 325M video card in ubuntu 10.10 64 bit.

I've tried the driver from: Administration -> Additional drivers
and the latest one(260.19.29) from the official Nvidia website.

After rebooting, it boots in text-only mode(CTRL+ALT+F1). After I tried to "startx" it gives an error(see in my xorg.0.log file for details).
It's just stuck at booting. The only way to get back in graphical mode is to reconfigure xorg.conf file to default(empty).

Before installing I've removed the Intel/nouveau drivers and followed this post:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490

I've tried older nvidia drivers before(version 256.*) but all of them won't work for me.

Some system details:
Asus notebook
Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
CPU: Intel i5 430M(2.27 Ghz)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT 325M 1GB

CPU also has integrated GPU within it. But the integrated doesn't perform that well.

This is my xorg.0.log file:

See the existing threads here that discuss Optimus / hybrid-graphics.

I think this will work...

Edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Add the line : blacklist nouveau

Save and reboot. Hopefully you'll end up in some low res when your PC starts. Then install the nvidia driver and reboot. This should do the trick. I can't gaurantee this will work 100% but it did work for me on the 64Bit version. I tried this on the 32Bit and it doesn't work (for me at least).

Good luck.
