I have had lots of luck just sticking with 2.1 on my Epic. I've tried the stock 2.2.1 and it seemed slow and laggy, not to mention it completely killed my gps. I flashed back to 2.1 stock then went with a custom ROM and a 1.2ghz overclock kernel and I really have to say that the stability and speed is by far better than dealing with a buggy 2.2 build

There's a good reason for the delays:

Running official 2.2.1 myself. Honestly I'd recommend paying xda-developers a visit and flashing a rom and kernel that support voodoo sound(simply amazing AQ for a phone).
Remember to flash the new kernel before rebooting: ROM Kernel Odin 1.7 + PIT files You're really missing out on what this phone has to offer by sticking to only official updates!

Yup. I finally flashed the wife's Captivate to Cognition 3.02. She's very happy with it.
Right now I'm running Cezar's Continuum SE 1.2. "Good" Gps and great standby battery life.

My dad got the Captivate.
By the looks of it, the Cognito is the best. Will read up, thanks. Wait, if this voids the warranty, then no go. |

Cognition is far from the best, its a very plain rom, there are much better roms out there.

Well if you return the phone for warranty repair with one of these roms installed im sure they can easily deny it, however there is a file out there that you can flash that brings the phone back to a stock firmware and att would have no idea what you did.

Its a one click flash program, you run the file, connect the phone to a usb cable and set the phone in download mode and click flash. It erases whatever rom is on the phone and brings it back to factory conditions.
