its a possibility, the only other things i can think of are

1) file downloaded somehow got corrupted either by browser, NIC driver etc...
2) some windows OS files are corrupt, run a scan to verify integrity
3) you used some type of crack that gets detected by the installer

thanks guys, Vin86 im downloading from that link as i type, hope it works

no i have no crack/hacked software running, im all legit

One or more system components that the service pack requires are missing

^%^^^ seems to be my problem, guess im going to have to try and reinstall windows////

well im reformated SDD and the SP1 installed just fiine, now the fun of reinstalling everything and getting everything back up and running....

All the silly secrecy on pages 1 and 2 makes me wonder how many of you sneaky petes are PC game pirates as well. There was really no need for it. It's just a service pack.

First off, I don't pirate games. Second off, it wasn't released at the time of the OP, therefore downloading it without MS's consent is piracy. Given the policy here on the forums, I think the behavior was fine.

If you are MSDN or have a Technet subscription, then you could have just downloaded it from MS.

In reality, you're probably right and MS probably doesn't care. But it's best to play it safe IMO.

I installed it, everything went fine. I am not sure what is new with the SP1, but everything seems to run fine.
