Default Missing HDMI Out Audio with ASUS G72GX with GTX 260M

The link describes my previous attempts at getting HDMI out audio working on my laptop.

Previously I had owned an ASUS G1S, which I successfully had HDMI audio working by appending "options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=3stack-660-digout" to the appropriate modprobe.d file and unmuting IEC958 via alsamixer.

Right now I'm running with a git ALSA version, but no HDMI audio still. S/PDIF and S/PDIF Default PCM are unmuted. Please advise me what to try next.

niblifar,

I'm not sure whether your GPU supports HDMI audio. There is certainly no built-in sound card on the GPU.

Some GPUs of this vintage include a connector, such that a regular sound card's digital SPDIF output can be looped back onto a connector on the graphics card, and then merged with the HDMI signal. Is that what you're trying to set up? Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with how that mechanism works right now.

No luck with alsa 1.0.24 or beta 270.18 driver.

The HDMI audio works automatically on Windows 7 so I figured it was a software issue. I haven't fiddled with any part of the hardware.
