Just curious to who plans in getting Sandy Bridge and why? The i7's are fast so how much faster can it really be?

Basically, if your current computer is 4 years old or more, a Sandy Bridge system will rock extremely hard. Otherwise, it won't be that much of an upgrade. I haven't reached the limits of my Phenom II yet, so I will be skipping SB.

First generation Core 2 Duo, 65nm, not enough cache, 4+ year old tech...that's why I'm doing it. If people have enough money to burn to upgrade to SB from a first generation i5/i7 then that's there prerogative, but it doesn't make any sense unless you're coming from C2D or C2Q IMO.

Q9550 still going strong here. I don't see any reason to upgrade yet besides just wanting to have the latest.

Well, anyone who wants to upgrade right now would be stupid to get anything else. Sandy Bridge has made X58 obsolete at standard clock speeds and really blows it away with overclocking potential.
If I have any spare cash in the next couple of months I'll probably take the plunge, because after selling my board and chip I could upgrade to SB for pretty cheap. |

I have a X58 3x SLI board and a i7 920, so I'm skipping SB. I'll probably get a 950 and maybe a SSD for 2011. I don't see the point in changing everything out.

Me too, Couldn't imagine i would see enough of a performance increase to justify upgrading to SB.
