Switch to external display

What's the simplest way to switch from the internal laptop to an external hdmi monitor? I don't want a twinview but only one of the two monitors enable at the same time.

Of course we have the nvidia-settings gui but it takes so many clics to reconfigure the monitors each time one (un)plug the external monitor.

Saving the configuration two configs (using "save current configuration in the nvidia-settings gui) helps a bit but I still have to enable/disable the monitors manually.

A script would be appreciated (or a simple way to perform the swithc)
