Yes... Yes you might.

Maybe you need high high high end water cooling.

Trust me it does not get more high end ;-)
Just bought everything from scratch and did a custom build :-)

I think your crazy high temps are from your crazy high vcore. Does it really take 1.56 to get past 5Ghz??? I didn't even get to 1.5 to break 5Ghz, but not every CPU overclocks the same. A lot of further testing since I first posted this thread have led me to the conclusion I lucked out on a very nice chip that loves high clocks with not too bad of vcore to get there.

If your breaking into 1.5 territory for vcore, you've gone too far, IMO. That's why even high end water cooling is breaking a sweat while my extremely low end water cooling, the Corsair H70, is performing better. It's simply a matter of how much heat your hitting it with and your hitting yours with a LOT more then I am. I set 80C flat as my red line, anything touching that or going past it is too much. At 5Ghz, the only way I break 80C now is if I run IBT + X3 TC at the same time, which is a totally unrealistic CPU load.

I just purchased this board today.

I won't be getting the CPU until next month, though...

why......

You know how close Bulldozer and ivy bridge are? That board will be a lot cheaper in a month too.

Why buy a board before you buy a cpu. lol

Just save money and buy both at once.

DD, you should keep your current setup and upgrade to Sandy Bridge E later this year. That'll be an upgrade, mainstream Sandy Bridge is just a sidestep and only a good move if you really need a good SATA 3 solution now.
I have to say I agree here. Unless you're just a addict to new toys like I am, don't give up your overclocked i7 920 for a SB. The SB is nicer, no doubt at all! But I wouldn't rate it as worth the costs associated unless your an experimenter like I am. I like new stuff to play with, and yearly core system upgrades are already part of my schedule, but most reasonable folks don't upgrade like I do, so the reasonable answer is don't do it until Sandy Bridge E comes out, like slaWter said.

If your sig is accurate about what rig you have, then HELL YES it's a wise decision. An i5 2500K is a whoopingly huge upgrade over your Core 2 setup. Massive difference.
