Compatibility

Hello, I've only bought one computer in my life, I bought everything that seemed top of the line at the time. Now I want to upgrade my Graphics Card, I had a 9800GT and was impressed with it, but, after 2 years, it stopped working, warranty replaced it, but I got a GTX 245, which I was not impressed with at all. So, im looking to get a 570 or 580, if someone could tell me if the extra cuda is even worth the extra $100 to $200. As well as, would the new cards be compatible or even WORTH buying with a P5Q Motherboard, and a E8400 Duo Processor, running 3.2ghz.

P.S. I am also running XP still. Should I upgrade to Windows 7 just for the Direct X?

You would be better off with one of the 560's really. Either that or an ATI 6950. You would be severely limited by an E8400 running a 570 or 580.

You might as well upgrade to win 7 if you can get an OEM version with a video card purchase. Not many DX10/11 games are all that big of a jump over DX9, but there are noticeable differences. Metro 2033 is probably the best example. Besides, Win7 is so much nicer to use than XP.

As above you might as well save some money and go for a 560 or 6950 unless you plan to upgrade your CPU in the near future.

So being that I was happy with my 9800GT, Would I be ALOT happier with a 560? Or would my CPU really diminish that much of a difference in the 560 to even notice?

As well as, If I were to upgrade my CPU, What would be a Considerable Upgrade for a cheaper Price, that would work on the P5Q. That could run the 570 and up.

maybe even go cheaper and get a 460 with that cpu.
