Any word on when we'll see 6-series MB back on the market? I need a 6 series MB for my upgrade.

Plenty of boards to go around over here, maybe we have all the broken ones. LoL

Probably money and the fact that 1155 will support Ivy Bridge with a BIOS update. Best bang for the buck imo.

So you're saying manufacturers will intentionally not release BIOS updates to force people to buy new boards? That will fly like a lead balloon...

I guess if the board is EOL and a newer version comes out, odds are they won't put out a new BIOS for a discontinued board. I don't remember if AMD board manufacturers did that with 939 when the X2's launched.

For example if a manufacturer used a low end PWM solution, it might not be enough to support Ivy Bridge.

Stuff like that happened a lot in the 775 days. Pin/Socket and BIOS compatibility is not enough.
Yup. I don't know of a board that supported Pentium D's that also supported C2Ds once they came out. Same thing is going to happen with AMD boards. A newer board will let you use the newer processors and older ones, but an older board won't let you use the latest processor.

I forgot that Ivy Bridge will make use of the IGP (right?). If so, even with the die shrink we will probably see power consumption rise. So you're right slawter, odds are only the higher end motherboards will have the ability to power them.
