Well most intense game i play is GTAIV or CoJ2 lol. Others would be like WoW lol. Im looking to replace a dead 275 not upgrade from one. And alot of other review sites show the GTX 560 alot closer to the GTX 470 and 5870, namly techpowerup and guru3d. Not saying the review here is inaccuate, but from what ive seen there alot closer lol. Also being as GTA IV and CoJ BiB i could do 2048x1536 max'd out just fine im not looking for signifcantly better, a side grade would work for me even lol, i just have a dead BFG GTX 275

Well the 5850 can be had for under £150 here and will OC to perform as a 5870.

Really? 150 pounds? That's like $242 USD.

The GTX 560 Ti is $250 and will outperform the 5870.

It depends on the test. For the tests in the review, my numbers are accurate. It's not like I did the test once and posted it. Each test was performed multiple times and averaged.

I'm not disputing that, the 560Ti would be my choice of those discussed, but they are £200 in the UK. In fact TBH I think the 6950 2Gb at £215 would be my choice

well on newegg the 200-300 market is

GTX460 1gb, 5870, 6870 (not interested), GTX 560 TI and 5950. Now the GTX4601gb is 200, the 5870 is 220, the GTX 560 is 250 and the 5950 is 260. And vin im not saying your numbers are wrong, but looking at othersites the race looks alot closer.




This for example across a wider range of games shows them alot closer. So the question is when they are considered equals is it really worth the extra 30 dollars? Note physx and nvidia 3d don't matter to me, I don't play anything that will use either, and the few games it trumps the 5870 significantly I have no interest in I tried metro2033 and was bored after 2 hours of game play. Resident Evil same story I couldnt get into the first one.

But CoD:BO I enjoyed and might play through again. I don't dispute your numbers vin as other sites show the same thing, but in games where the GTX 560 TI pulls ahead, there are also games where it struggles to come close and in the long run i call them equals lol. So with them being equal is 30 dollars really worth it

According to the review, Catalyst AI is enabled there. Will that make up the difference? I don't know, maybe or maybe not. But in terms of IQ, I wouldn't call it an apples-to-apples comparison. And as the review says: "Benchmark scores in other reviews are only comparable when this exact same configuration is used."

no I understand as for catalyst AI while it may affect preformance I dont tweak my drivers either, when I install i go with recomended defaults for drivers, unless its an older game that i want specific things in like MOH:AA with 16x AA lol. So with catalyst AI being what is recomended from past experince both with my old HD 3870 and HD 4770 id prolly do the same thing and run it anyway. Im focused entirely on bang for buck, but enough bang to play my games well at 2048x1536, which is about 1920x1200 in terms of pixel used, though i wish they'd test at my rez also these days.

IMO Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti SOC for 265usd. It's got good cooling with a guaranteed 1000MHz out of the box.

I'm sure other cards will get there and I like the cooler and the 1000MHz under warranty. The GTX 460 1Gb is still a great card @ 810 and up on the core. It's worth noting some 460 1Gb cards may be had for as low as around 160usd AR. That's a lot of card for the asking price, particularly for folks who OC. Most do 810-850 without issues. I've seen many cards like the Asus DirectCU often make 900 on the core with a voltage bump.

Honestly I could understand someone buying either.

Here's one thing you could do.... depending on the return policy of the store. I know Best Buy lifted their 15% restocking fee for a short period of time so a place like that would work.

I actually did this when my GTS 250 was being shipped to me.... go out and pick up a brand new card, charge it to credit, use it for a week or 2, return it.... $0 net cost, you basically just rented a card for a week.

That is if the 6800GT really is THAT bad.... I have one at home and it plays classic games just fine. I agree with an earlier post, load up some games like Doom3, HL2, UT2k4 and just enjoy the past. If FPSs aren't your style then KOTOR or another older rpg would be fun. Into RTSs? Pick up the original StarCraft or Warcraft 3.
