OK I generally prefer larger buffer sizes, but tested it for you:

2.67 ms combined latency (1.3 ms input/output latency), 256 frames at 192khz, stable. Tested it with a bosendorfer 275 gig sample, qsampler fantasia frontend, freeverb reverb, midi keyboard and the following system:

AMD athlon 64 X2 5600+
ESI Juli@ 24 bit 192khz audio interface
4 gb of 800 mhz ram
7200 rpm harddisk
nvidia geforce gts450 (gf106) with 270.18 beat drivers
kernel 2.6.38-lowlatency
ubuntustudio 10.04

Looking at the output buffer only: Is this 2 x 256 frames or is it 2 x 128 frames (=256)?

I'm sorry to hear that. Since you have a GeForce GT 220, I suspect you're affected by a bug I've since fixed that prevented an initialization path from falling back to uncacheable memory if write-combined memory was unavailable. Current 256.xx and 260.xx drivers should not suffer from this problem.

If you did not read "128" anywhere then I believe it isn't
