Default [UBUNTU] VSync causing games to not work, tried many things....

G'day all. Well, I am having an interesting problem. I have searched everywhere and can not even find a reproduction of this problem let alone a fix.

If I turn on Vsync (Sync to VBlank) under OpenGL Settings in NVIDIA X Server Settings, my games will simply not start. There are other artifacts aswell, such as screen not refreshing properly on resolution change and stuff, which I believe to be related, but the main problem is my games just will not start. Turn it off, they start fine.

It used to work fine, used it all the time. It has however simply stopped working. I have formatted, tried both x86 and x86_64, tried different drivers, etc, basically tried everything under the sun, and best I can come up with, Vsync just doesn't work anymore. So wierd, since it used to work fine.

Anyone have any idea why this would suddenly start happening?

can you read http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 and generate a good report with the debug ( -logverbose 6 ) info as instructed after the issue appears ?

Alrighty, I have collected and attached 4 logs.

First, with vSync off, this is the situation that things run fine. (nvidia-bug-report-vsyncoff.log.gz)
Second, with vSync on, before starting a game. (nvidia-bug-report-vsynconbeforegame.log.gz)
Third, with vSync on and while the game is sitting frozen. (nvidia-bug-report-vsyncongamecrash.log.gz)
Fourth, with vSync on, after the game has been Terminated. (nvidia-bug-report-vsynconaftergamecrash.log.gz)

Hopefully this is useful info and thank you for the help.

Can you try with Composition disabled?

also try a newer driver, like 260.19.21 or better the latest 270.18 beta

Okie dokie, first off sorry for the late reply, few RL things have kept me busy the last few days.

Ok, While yes I have tested those previously, I figure the logs might help with diagnosis, so I updated to the 270.18 drivers, and have collected another set of logs, same circumstances, with compiz on and compiz off.

I have attached the compiz on logs to this post, and will make a second post for the compiz off logs, due to maximum attachment limit.

Thanks again for the help.
