Unreal is dated and needs to add much more to get with the times, can't do foliage well or open worlds. Not to mention, can't think of any unreal based game that has destructible environment.

TERA is MMORPG and it's based on UE3, so I would say open world is not a problem
Also UE3 has integrated support for PhysX. |
