Hi, according to ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...rtedchips.html the GeForce GT 420 is not supported. Is this going to be changed in the near future?

There is no GT 420. What you have is an OEM name for something else. Or maybe there is a GT 420, but it's an OEM exclusive and not available in retail. Anyway, just boot up a livecd or liveusb distro and check the pci-id (by running lspci -nn).
Edit: Why didn't I google before writing the post? It's an OEM exclusive card. Still, check the pci-id with a live distro. |

The card is listed here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
It's possible to download a Windows driver by selecting Product Type: GeForce Product Series: GeForce 400 Series Product: GeForce GT 420 This is the output of lspci: Code:
$ lspci -nn | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation Device [10de:0de2] (rev a1) |

That device ID isn't listed in 270.30 so it probably won't work.

While this might be true, and the card works despite not being listed, the question is then why isn't it listed? Does nvidia want to pretend the card doesn't exist?
That wouldn't actually surprise me.Quote:
). Ok, seriously, the worst that can probably happen is X exits with an error from the driver that says "card not supported". |

sorry if i was misunderstood, i just quoted you but i was talking with furzkissen that even if the ID is not in the README maybe it's in the drivers
but do add details about that trick with rm_is_card_supported so that he can use that if it does not work ![]() |
