Post The New GeForce GTX 550 Ti Gaming Video Card and S3D Gaming

Today Nvidia has announced their new GeForce GTX 550 Ti GPUs and video cards based on it are already available. The GeForce GTX 550 Ti is the direct successor of the previous generation GeForce GTS 450, offering slightly increased specs and also a boost in performance. Nvidia is positioning this new Fermi-based graphics processor as a good solution for gaming in 1680√?1050 mode and that is for playing in 2D mode (plain 3D), so you can pretty much guess that the video cards based on it won't be the best choice for gaming in stereo 3D mode on a Full HD 3D monitor. However if you are using a 720p 3D DLP projector mostly for 3D multimedia such as 3D movies and for gaming from time to time, then the GeForce GTX 550 Ti might be still Ok for your stereo 3D gaming needs. Maybe two of these 550 Ti cards can also provide decent enough performance for gaming in stereo 3D mode on a Full HD 3D monitor, so that may also be an option, although for the price of two 550s I'd prefer to get a single more powerful GPU‚?¶

Specifications of GeForce GTX 550 Ti:

CUDA Cores ' 192
Graphics Clock ' 900 MHz +117
Shader Processor Clock ' 1800 MHz +234
Texture Fill Rate ' 28.8 billion/sec +3.7
Standard Memory Configuration ' 1024 MB GDDR5
Memory Interface Width ' 192-bit +64
Memory Clock ' 2050 MHz (4100 MHz effective) +246 (492)
Memory Bandwidth ' 98.4 GB/sec +40.7
Texture Units (TMU) ' 32
Raster Operator Units (ROP) ' 24 +8
Power connectors ' 1x 6-pin PEG
Power consumption ' 116W TDP +10
GPU Thermal Threshold ' 100 degrees Celsius

* The numbers in red and green represent the upgrade or downgrade of the specific parameter in the GTX 550 Ti as compared to the GTS 450 1GB!

A single GTX 560 Ti may be a better choice and will probably provide you with a more comfortable experience playing in stereo 3D mode even on a Full HD 3D monitor as the tests I've done a while ago hint: The New GeForce GTX 560 Ti is Great for Budget Stereo 3D Gaming. Still the GTX 550 Ti may be a good choice for 3D multimedia and 3D HD gaming (not Full HD), especially considering the price of about $150 USD‚?¶
