D'oh! You're right. I removed the i686 folder I had created and then removed the /usr/X11R6/lib/tls directory and ran ldconfig. Same amount of extentions and Direct Rendering is enabled.

gotcha!
you dont need any of the i686 dirs created by the older xfree installs any more. looking at your output of glxinfo you have all extensions available. should perform pretty well now. and dont forget to delete the dir again when upgrading to a new xfree-mesa-libgl package. best lars |

The "fix" you posted does not work for users of SUSE Linux.
/usr/lib/tls does not exit in SUSE 9 installations. I would greatly appreciate a solution suggestion(s) PAF (novice) |

Hi All
I am having this same problem using mandrake 10 community. Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". display: :0 screen: 0 direct rendering: No server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation server glx version string: 1.3 server glx extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, GLX_SGIX_pbuffer client glx vendor string: SGI client glx version string: 1.2 client glx extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context GLX extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce2 GTS/AGP/SSE/3DNOW! I went to remove them but it also wanted to remove several other packages, perl being one of them. Should I just try uninstalling the mesa stuff and then re install perl? "remove the /usr/X11R6/lib/tls dir" I checked this directory on my system and its empty. The really weird thing is that glxgears still runs and at a frame rate comparable to the 5336 driver (which had direct rendering on) How do I get mandrake 10 to use the nvidia files instead of the mesa files that it has installed. Removing them isnt an option as it wants to take half of kDE with it. |

Please disregard my previous post. I must be blind
The usr/X11R6/lib/tls directory did have 2 files in it. Removed the tls directory and problem solved. |
