Default Can I run the GTX285M at full speed on battery power?

I've looked through all the "please let me kill powermizer" threads (including one I started 3 years ago), and I notice there haven't been any posts about this lately. Has NVIDIA fixed something, or have the masses just lost all hope?

In my case, I'd like to be able to keep running at 60FPS on battery for a short while, instead of dropping to 15FPS and lasting a little longer.

Possible?

Doesn't Google work for you?

Read my post, jerk. I've read all the old threads. But there aren't any new threads, and there don't seem to be any solutions out there. Often, this means that there is a solution that showed up, so everyone stopped asking. (Perhaps this solution is on the 20th page of google's results, but it isn't anywhere near the top.) Often, this means that there still isn't a solution, and people have stopped pestering NVIDIA for one. I know this community, so the latter seems unlikely.

I want to know which case it is.

Have you tried setting the "PowerMizer Preferred Mode" in nvidia-settings? This works great for me (on an older GPU, though), and I even have a script set up to automatically change modes when I unplug the PC.

Yes. Even with powermizer off, I see reduced performance when I unplug. Here is some output from nvidia-settings with the power connected:

Code:
  Attribute 'GPUPowerSource' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 0.
  Attribute 'GPUCurrentPerfMode' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 1.
  Attribute 'GPUCurrentPerfLevel' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 2.
  Attribute 'GPUAdaptiveClockState' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 1.
  Attribute 'GPUPerfModes' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): perf=0, nvclock=50, memclock=135 ; perf=1, nvclock=73, memclock=324 ; perf=2, nvclock=575, memclock=1500
  Attribute 'GPUPowerMizerMode' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 0.
and then on battery:

Code:
  Attribute 'GPUPowerSource' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 1.
  Attribute 'GPUCurrentPerfMode' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 1.
  Attribute 'GPUCurrentPerfLevel' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 1.
  Attribute 'GPUAdaptiveClockState' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 1.
  Attribute 'GPUPerfModes' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): perf=0, nvclock=50, memclock=135 ; perf=1, nvclock=73, memclock=324 ; perf=2, nvclock=575, memclock=1500
  Attribute 'GPUPowerMizerMode' (vosk.local:0[gpu:0]): 0.
As you can see, even though powermizer is disabled (0), the perf level drops to 1 when I unplug the AC power.

I've tried just about every possible combination of DWORDs in my xorg.conf, and the behavior is unchanged.

Perhaps there just aren't enough amps in the battery to drive perf level 2?
