Default NVIDIA Quadro 2000M > 270.41.03 > SLED 11 SP1 > external display

I have a ThinkPad W520 with the 2000M in discrete only mode and running SLED 11 SP1 with the 270.41.03 32-bit driver for Linux. I have the notebook display working perfectly however I'm having a hell of a time getting nvidia-xconfig to detect and use the external display attached to the ThinkPad's port replicator. It works with the VESA driver but looks like sh!t.

I've tried the --mode=<ideal resolution of the external display> but X crashes when I try to load with the resulting xorg.conf

Attached is my nvidia-bug-report output, please let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

Thank you in advance to all who are able to help
