Default HDMI 1.4 3D

Is it possible to use stereo 3D modes on Linux (for movie playback or OpenGL) over HDMI on GTX460 and similar devices? My aim is to develop software for this, so I am interested on APIs, not so much on existing application software (which probably does not exist).
