Default SLI not working, X log says "Trouble accessing PCI Config Space"

I can't seem to get SLI working on my machine under Linux. It works fine with Windows. I have 2 GeForce GTX 560 Ti (EVGA) cards, with the cable between them.

Here is the excerpt from my Xorg.0.log:
Code:
[ 30.267] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to find a valid SLI configuration.
[ 30.267] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Invalid SLI configuration 1 of 1:
[ 30.267] (EE) NVIDIA(0): GPUs:
[ 30.267] (EE) NVIDIA(0): 1) NVIDIA GPU at PCI:3:0:0
[ 30.267] (EE) NVIDIA(0): 2) NVIDIA GPU at PCI:4:0:0
[ 30.267] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Errors:
[ 30.267] (EE) NVIDIA(0): - Trouble accessing PCI Config Space
[ 30.267] (WW) NVIDIA(0): Failed to find a valid SLI configuration for the NVIDIA
[ 30.267] (WW) NVIDIA(0): graphics device PCI:3:0:0. Please see Chapter 25:
[ 30.267] (WW) NVIDIA(0): Configuring SLI and Multi-GPU FrameRendering in the README
[ 30.267] (WW) NVIDIA(0): for troubleshooting suggestions.
[ 30.267] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Only one GPU will be used for this X screen.
I have MMCONFIG disabled in my kernel. I am using a ASUS Sabertooth X58 motherboard with an ASUS Xonar D2X audio card and a PCI-E Intel gigabit network card (I am not a fan of Realtek). I have attached nvidia-bug-report.log.gz, I am running Gentoo Linux with the latest Nvidia driver (270.18) and xorg server 1.9.5. My kernel is 2.6.38.1, manually compiled.

As far as I know, SLI for Fermi cards in Linux does not work. Everytime I try with 3 GTX480's, X crashes immediatly after the login screen. With only 2 cards X will work for a bit longer, and has much more lag than with one card. If your only trying to use CUDA applications, your cards will work fine without SLI enabled. One crappy thing however, is you cannot control the fan speed for the graphics card that is not attached to the X display. (With coolbits anyway). FYI there is no overclocking support in linux, if you want to go that route a reflash will be needed.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm seeing the same error with a single GTX 295.

I know Fermi (GTX4XX, GTX5XX) SLI does not work but I could not say for older cards. If you get the same error as chutz try adding vmalloc=256M to your grub.conf. Without that line I cannot get any cards or X to boot.

I tried that, didn't make any difference. I would think it must be a kernel or bios issue, but I've tried everything I can think of and still the same error. Looks like I need to look for a single GPU solution.

Same problem here with two 9800 GTX cards, running the last ubuntu.
I tried to flash my BIOS, change the PCI slots, ...

Anything new on this subject ?

Same exact problem here using ASUS Sabertooth X58 with Xonar sound card and two GTX-285 cards with bridge installed. Worked fine in Ubuntu 10.04 with 195 drivers. Works fine in Windows 7. Ubuntu 11.04 was a fresh install and NVidia 270 is working fine except for SLI. Identical Xorg.log display as well...

I have had SLI working on older drivers on my duel gtx480s but with the current driver I don't seem to be able to enable SLI at all. It seems very strange to me.

ps
sli is working fine on ubuntu 10.10 with the 260 drivers, but on ubuntu 11.04 with the 270 drivers it no worky

FWIW, I found and fixed a problem today that led to Trouble accessing PCI Config Space SLI initialization errors on recent Linux kernels.

Can we expect a fix in the next driver release zander? Now that I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 I am also experiencing this issue with 3 Asus GTX 480's. Thanks

I can't promise that it'll be in the next driver release, though I'm hopeful that it will be.

Awesome thanks zander! By the way the latest 270.41.06 drivers are really good, I have not seen a single Xid or anything since upgrading. Keep up the good work!
