I'm pretty pissed that they haven't given us some sort of concession for this entire incident.

This will be the last time I buy a Sony product for a while. At this rate, the company will be dead in 5 years anyway.

First, you're insane if you think Sony will be dead in 5 years.

Second, they have and are giving you something because of this incident. If you are a PC customer you get the package I listed before, if you are a console customer you will get a completely different package, as well as a year of ID theft protection.

Then you didn't get your information compromised. That's the package for PC customers, if you didn't own any of those games, you weren't a PC customer. The console package is completely different.

Their TV's suck, their stereos suck, their console has broken security, they lie to their customers, they don't provide adequate protection to their customers, their current console is incredibly hard to program on, they can't make a decent MMO anymore... the list goes on.

They're losing money. Then companies like Samsung arose and took their spot. At least if Samsung were to "misplace" information gathered from our phones, they wouldn't lie about it (which wouldn't happen because the phones aren't controlled by Samsung. They're controlled by carriers.) Sony didn't even break the ice for a week, and even then, they were keeping information from us.

Here's what I've gathered from this whole incident: Sony insists on keeping such a stranglehold on hardware that WE PAID FOR that eventually their security gets broken and all of it becomes compromised. Sony has power because they have OUR INFORMATION. Once that information is gone and in the hands of someone else, they cry like a baby and then try to write it off as something that wasn't their fault. I would buy it IF they had been actually trying to keep the information secure. Instead they're more worried about keeping control over their ****ty glorified blu-ray players. They'd rather millions of people's personal information and CC#'s get stolen than lose control over a single console.

They may not be dead in 5 years, but it won't be because I helped keep them alive. Companies like Sony need to die.

Sony sucks because they got attacked?

These sorts of attacks take a lot of planning and time and it's not like Sony left the door open to them so someone could steal your details.

Seriously, Sony had industry standard and up to date security. They got hacked because the hacker was experienced and had a cloud system for processing power (it is said he rented Amazons Cloud Servers to conduct the attack).

The only thing Sony did wrong in this indecent was that they took too long to make it public and contact people who were affected.

Nice rant. First you're mad about not getting compensated, and when you find out otherwise, you get mad about something else, they can't win.

1) Sony isn't losing money, their profits are down, but so are everyone else's, including Samsung. Lower profits != losing money.

2) They got hacked, and 90% of reports dealing with that issue since it happened were FUD. First it was how information was in plain text format, then it was their servers are outdated, and on and on it went. Too bad none of those things turned out to be true.

3) The only thing Sony could have done differently is report the initial attack faster, which would have made no difference. There still hasn't been a single case of CC fraud because of this hack, and they've done everything they can since that point. What do you people expect them to do that they haven't already?

4) Here's what I get from this incident. People are dying to see Sony fail, and this ordeal just gives them an excuse to ignore the facts and jump on the hate train.

Anyway, the bottom line is this, Sony isn't going anywhere and what happened to them could happen to any company. Blaming them for being hacked is ridiculous. They (and their customers) were the victims in this incident, they weren't the bad guys.

This is all pretty much true. I think they could have been more serious and apologetic about it(letting the sony arrogance shine through), but I don't really think there is anything esle they could have done. They could have handled all this geohotz, linux stuff better and that would have helped them, but thats done and theres no changing that now.

Oh sweet. I will be waiting for their release, then I will judge them again. Fairly, of course.

Unless something changes (which is might) here is the package PSN users will get when it's available:

Quote:
This package will be made available to all existing registered PlayStation Network and Qriocity users in North America (US and Canada), and will be made available shortly after we have fully restored the service. More specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live.

All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

Dead Nation
inFAMOUS
LittleBigPlanet
Super Stardust HD
Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
ModNation Racers
Pursuit Force
Killzone Liberation

A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.
30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional 60 days of free subscription.
Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.
Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.
To welcome users Home, PlayStation Home will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.

Seems like a pretty decent package to me. Nothing amazing, but certainly a few good titles in that list. The European and Latin packs might be slightly different. I think i saw Ratchet and Clank in one post instead of Super Stardust.

Also every account holder will receive this as well:

Quote:
Last weekend, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that we will provide complimentary enrollment in an identity theft protection program. Here are the details of this program for PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States only. We are working to make similar programs available in other countries/territories where applicable. Information will be posted on local websites/blogs when available.

Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International have made arrangements with Debix, Inc., one of the industry’s most reputable identity protection firms, to offer AllClear ID Plus at no cost to PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders for 12 months from the time an account holder registers for the program.

Please note that we will start sending out activation emails for this program over the next few days, and you will have until June 18th to sign-up and redeem your code. You will need to sign up directly through AllClearID, not on Sony’s websites, and details, including step-by-step instructions for the program, will be emailed to United States PSN and Qriocity Account holders soon.

The details of the program include, but are not limited to:

Cyber monitoring and surveillance of the Internet to detect exposure of an AllClear ID Plus customer’s personal information, including monitoring of criminal web sites and data recovered by law enforcement. If his/her personal information is found, the customer will be alerted by phone and/or email and will be provided advice and support regarding protective steps to take. The customer will also receive monthly identity status reports. Debix works with an alliance of cyber-crime experts from the government, academia and industry to provide these services.
Priority access to licensed private investigators and identity restoration specialists. If an AllClear ID Plus customer receives an alert, or otherwise suspects that he/she may be the victim of identity theft, the customer can speak directly, on a priority basis, with an on-staff licensed private investigator, who will conduct a comprehensive inquiry. In the case of an identity theft, the customer can work with an identity restoration specialist to contact creditors and others, and take necessary steps to restore the customer’s identity.
A $1 million identity theft insurance policy per user to provide additional protection in the event that an AllClear ID Plus customer becomes a victim of identity theft. This insurance would provide financial relief of up to $1 million for covered identity restoration costs, legal defense expenses, and lost wages that occur within 12 months after the stolen identity event.

More information will be available on the enrollment page, a link which will be included in the email you will receive.

We continue to work around the clock to have some PlayStation Network services and Qriocity services restored, and will be providing you specific details shortly.

Thank you.

All in all I think what they are offering is more than adequate. They are making sure you can't be negatively effected by this mess any further, and are tossing in some games, movies, and services as well.
