Default 8600m GT with linux trouble

Hello.
I've searched but didn't found a thread about that problem.
There are a trouble with geforce drivers and 8600m GT card on linux. I've suffered from this bug with ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04. Now I have to use 10.04 Ubuntu on my laptop(Acer aspire 5920g with 8600m GT).
When I install geforce driver on my laptop it just starts with black screen and nothing could be done with it.
New drivers don't work with new linux kernel 2.6.35.
Here are some bug-reports from ubuntu users who suffers same problem as mine:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...rs/+bug/661248 << affects 8 people
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/661394 << affects 15 people
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...rs/+bug/758674 << affects 2 people
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...rs/+bug/664778 << affects 2 people
There ale a lot more people who have this bug and thing is not only with ubuntu.
P.S.: sorry for my English, I'm from not English speaking country.

latest 270.41.06 driver works with 2.6.38 so it will work with 2.6.35 anyway, did you try it ?

can you switch to a VT ( via CTRL-ALT-F1 .. F6 ) ?

can you read http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 and generate a good report with the debug ( -logverbose 6 ) info as instructed after the issue appears ?

It seems that I've been misunderstood. The thing is not only with linux kernel. The trouble is with "linux kernel 2.6.35(and newer)"+"nvidia driver"+"8600m GT".
Today is the release date of ubuntu 11.04, when I'll get home I'll upgrade and try to submit a "good report" here.
Thank you for your answer.

As I mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...rs/+bug/661248 , this is a bug in the kernel and not a bug in the graphics driver.

I've failed to upgrade, because ubuntu servers seem to be overloaded.
2AaronP: so then who is responsible for this bug? Where else I should write or what should I do to help fix this bug?

Looks like this problem its not only for the nvidia 8600gt.

I had the same problem with ubuntu 10.10 after updating Linux Kernel and Geforce Gtx 460.
Today I did an Ubuntu 11.04 clean install, so I downloaded and installed 270.41.06 nvidia driver and again a i get blank screen after rebooting SO.

I've only ever seen this bug reported on Ubuntu, so my guess is that one of Ubuntu's kernel customizations is responsible. A good place to start would be to see if the problem goes away with a vanilla kernel, and then start adding Ubuntu's patches to see which one is responsible.

Please get a look at the launchpad bug tracker (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...rs/+bug/661248), they discovered a clue leading back to the nvidia driver (more precisely to the nv-kernel.o binary)...
