Default kernel: nvidia-settings[...]: segfault at 8 ... error 4 in error 4 in libqtengine.so

# uname -a
Linux bt 2.6.35.8 #1 SMP Sun Nov 14 06:32:36 EST 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Board:
Quadro FX 3700M in Lenovo W700

Driver:
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-270.41.06.run

dpkg:
nvidia-settings 177.78-0ubuntu2.1

Problem:

Trying to start nvidia-settings results in a segfault logged to /var/log/messages:
May 1 16:50:15 bt kernel: nvidia-settings[6620]: segfault at 8 ip b6c45284 sp bfb59220 error 4 in libqtengine.so[b6c25000+23000]
May 1 16:50:37 bt kernel: nvidia-settings[6621]: segfault at 8 ip b6ce4284 sp bf950aa0 error 4 in libqtengine.so[b6cc4000+23000]

# dmesg | grep nvidia
nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
nvidia 0000:01:00.0: power state changed by ACPI to D0
nvidia 0000:01:00.0: power state changed by ACPI to D0
nvidia 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
nvidia 0000:01:00.0: setting latency timer to 64

Attached the log from the driver install.

Attached xorg.conf (as a zip -- would not allow me to attach the unzipped file!)

Suggestions on how to fix this issue? All help greatly appreciated in advance!

can you read http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 and generate a good report with the debug ( -logverbose 6 ) info as instructed after the issue appears ?
