Default 550Ti: no coolbits clock control? [290.10]

Just installed 64-bit openSUSE 12.1 and the nVidia driver 290.10 today. Coolbits unlocks the fan control, but not any clock controls.

Is there any plans to support clock control for this card? I'd like to peg PowerMizer Preferred Mode to "performance", but at 405/810 instead of the default 900/2050 core/mem settings.

(Jumping between 50MHz chuginess and 900MHZ overkill for KDE compositing is kinda silly.)

Have you tried the suggested solution in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...for_laptops.29 ?

I haven't, so don't know if it will work or not. Obviously, your card would have to have at least three perf levels. Mine does (50/405/782 core).

No Coolbits for any Fermi card. The nvidia linux team is small, so they have to pick their battles. And Coolbits is a battle they decided not to pick.

And mind that Gusar is quoting the official NVIDIA stance is this case (using almost the same words).

Yes, I found that thread later. Glad I only got a 550Ti so that when I peg it to max clocks for KDE gui smoothness, it's not going to be overly hot or noisy. It's very sad that we can't even underclock. Given how well it works on Windows, pretty much a perceived big middle finger to the Linux enthusiast and htpc crowd wrt $$$ 500-series cards.

I vainly tried "nvclock -s" ... just attempting to print out the clocks hard-locked the machine as a regular user, lol.
