I talked to Sandip, he confirmed that the problem is fixed for Linux and Windows both, and that the new driver will arrive some time in October.

Today prerelease 285.05.09 arrived.

"Fixed a bug that prevented the driver from loading on some ION systems." <- could that be "our" fix?

Isn't the fix included in 285.05.09?

The entry "Fixed a bug that prevented the driver from loading on some ION systems" was incorrectly added to the 285.05.09 changelog. The fix for this issue will be in our next beta release. Sorry for the false alarm.

Do you have a time schedule of when you will release the next beta?

NVIDIA doesn't comment on future releases, i.e. no one will tell you when.

What confuses me is that none of the systems I have which exhibit this problem are ION systems.

Taking some unofficial info from a third source as a limited reference (http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames), is it possible that your equipment could be categorized as one of these?

ION, GeForce 9300, 9400, 9100M, 8200M

They technically are kindreds at the integrated circuit (NV50 Family - NVAC (MVP79/MCP7A)) level from what I'm seeing at a site dedicated to reversing the hardware to develop an open-source driver. Whether that helps or not, keep on looking & waiting with the rest of us.
