In gnome-shell when switching to out of X to another vt and then back results in a corrupt background. Loading a new wallpaper image clears up the corruption.

This problem persists with the 270.41.06 pre-release. Switching to a TTY and back can lead to a system freeze. I really wish your driver would hook into the kernel dump/crash so that when your driver crashes a better report could be generated. After the card couldn't be reset, service interrupts stopped being handled. Here is the last thing that your blob attempted:

I'm using a 64-bit install and to trigger the bug load 32-bit firefox and flash version 10.2.159.1. It appears that vdpau likely is the cause of the crash which is triggered by flash.

Actually I can trigger the screen corruption by simply switching to a TTY. There are times on a fresh start that the switch won't corrupt the screen and crash gnome-shell but usually the result is a crash in gnome-shell or at least desktop corruption. Right now in order to avoid the bug I have to avoid switching TTY's.

I also experience this bug on another computer with a geforce 7600GT so it isn't limited to just the newer than the G80 GPUs.

NVIDIA internally filed Bug ID: 816457 to track this issue.

I am not sure if it is the same problem, but I very often get corrupted gnome-shell background upon resuming from suspend. Of course as per heisenbugs, I cannot reproduce it while typing up this post.

OK, looks like I got it. I can reproduce the problem consistently if I have Thunderbird window open in fullscreen and I switch VTs. Nothing gets produced in the logs though. At least not it /var/log/messages, /var/log/Xorg.0.log or dmesg.

The same issue happen when using Ubuntu Classic with Compiz as the window manager so not sure it's NVIDIA-specific or an Xorg redraw problem. No Xid errors.
