I have never had an issue with nvidia drivers breaking mythtv.
The beta driver was working fine for me in all my applications, save one MythTV I could watch TV, record, watch recordings, but then some strange things occured, I couldn't burn DVD's in mytharchive, it claimed it could find the video stream information. It seemed strange, but didn't think it would be a driver issue, then mythfilldatabse wouldn't run, certainly I never thought it would be related to nvidia, than I started having problems with vlc playing files that had been recorded since the driver install. I thought about any recent changes to my system, and there had been none except installing the beta driver. I figured that couldn't be it, but simple enough to revert to the stable driver, so re-installed the stable driver and all is working well now. Not sure what kind of information I could possibly provide as I won't re-install the beta, and the driver worked with everything else. |

Yes it did. I installed the current stable driver and all the problems went away. I know it sounds odd, and to me really makes not much sense but downgrading to the stable driver resolved the problem.

Sounds like mythtv needs to be fixed. Or you can use VDR instead.

Maybe you had some strange errors in your system log when you were running beta drivers?

MythTV didn't break the driver. The driver broke MythTV. |

A driver shouldn't "break" an app. Also, it's not exactly as if mythtv is some great piece of software. It's a bunch of odds & ends that were slapped together enough to "work", and it's certainly got it's problems. Just read the mythtv forums -- you'll have no problem finding examples.

Well I didn't say MythTV was without problems.
I guess people simply can't come here and say hey, I installed a driver and it broke an application that I Depend upon heavily, without someone claiming the app is the problem and nvidia has nothing to do with it. I am an avid nvidia user, and avid Linux user for about 13 years now. I will remain avid about using both for many more years to come. I simply came here to give a heads up that there was a problem with the latest beta driver. I won't re-install it because the machine it is used on acts as a database/mythtv/zoneminder frontend for numerous computers in my house. unfortunately I won't be able to provide any "useful" logs, because I can't have the backend down. Maybe someone else who runs into the issue can afford the down time will find the thread, and be able to submit some bug reports. |

I'm not sure how much help you can expect when you won't supply a proper bug report... I guess you're at the mercy of anyone else who runs into this problem and is willing to do the work you're not willing to. Hope you do find a solution to your issues none-the-less.

I uninstalled the beta driver so don't have a problem anymore.
