Well, i got it on launch day, and i have been playing it non stop all the weekend.
I was one of those teenagers who played DN3D in year 1996 on a Pentium 1 running VESA modes. I remember playing this game in my University years, and i remember the day in which i downloaded that E3 1998 trailer in something like 30x 3.5" floppy disks, and i brought it to my home to show it to all my buddies. I'm almost 2x times older now, it has been a long time waiting for this new Duke Nukem game. So, for me, the waiting has been something very special & very frustrating aswell. Imho, 3D Realms should have released the 1st game in year 98-99 with the Quake 2 engine, then they could have released a new one in year 2002 with the UT 2.5 Engine, and another one with the UE3 Engine in year 2007+. But they wanted to create something "perfect", and it took forever, and all the DN fans disappeared with the years, got a job, wife, kids, ... so, basically 3DR lost the wagon imho. In spite of, i have tried the game, i have finished it, and i must say that i have enjoyed it very very much, because, i must say that i was feeling like a teenager again, remembering my old days playing DN3D. The graphics are strange, because, some maps feature rich details, good textures, models, ... but you can see the age of the development in some low quality textures, and things like that, so, the game is really showing all the years that it has been in development. Anyway, the heavily modified UE used in this game is doing a very nice job, and some of the shaders are real good (water refraction & specular f.e.). The gameplay is real good for me, because i'm an old player, and i like linear & simple things, and i love the weapons, the gore, the chicks, ... and the controls with keyboard mouse are accurate & precise, like in the old DN3D. This is not a game to play with a pad if you want to enjoy it, you need to be quick & precise to survive. I also invited some of my old friends to home to watch the game after all these years, and we had a very good time playing it, and remembering our old battles with Duke Nukem. In short, if you were a fan like i was, forget everything that you have heard, get the game & lets rock ![]()

I agree with walterman! Even tho graphics are kinda bad and gameplay is a mess, Duke fans will find it very nostalgic and They should like it just like old dn3d

If the asking price was 29USD then yea...i agree...its a decent game...but for 80USD(AU) it is god awful, ure better off getting Brink instead.
multiplayer looks like p2p as well. i cant even force myself to finish this game it is soo boring and there is waaay too much where ure locked into a turret and just sit there shooting...and at one point ure chopper goes down/taking hit...but ure just sitting on the chair...while some noob npc just hits a few bullets and die.. i think the video by totalhalibut just sums up how bad this game is..and what a total disaster to the nuke name. i mean come on...take the price they are asking into considering and how awful the graphics/gameplay can be... one thing i liked about this game was the shotgun...it does sound satisfying...the rest is just garbage. i would not recommend this to anyone until the price is in the bargain bin. if u waited 12 years for this pile of ****..i am sure u can wait a few months before it hits the bargain bin. Save your money. |

i loved DN3D when it was released. i have been gaming since the very early 80s
DN3D came out at the right time and was aged at teenagers which i was at the time i replayed it a few years ago and i found the humour out of date and in poor taste and level design headache inducing it had not aged well. DN Forever is 100% a cash cow for nastalgic reasons. and nostalgia always makes things seem better than they were |

Ive played some mp yesterday (I dont like playing multiplayer too much in games) and it was quite fun. Shrinking or frozing other people is always a good fun. But once I got to know a level design and where is devastator and jetpack - i was unstopable. Just as everyone who found devastator and jetpack. Still. Besides its stiffness - Its acceptable. Not dn3d or blood experience but fun too.

That comic pretty much sums it all up.
I was a huge fan of games like Duke Nukem 3D, and Redneck Rampage back in the day. However, as you grow older humor and gameplay like that become a little stale. Also the game has little to none of the secret areas and alternate routes that the first game had. It's like a single linear path through each map.

That comic sums up my sentiments exactly about the re-emergence of Duke.

I'll be checking it out in a few. My expectations are low and my mind is open. I have not been impressed with old Duke at all through all these years of hype and vapor and I'm not one of those kids who wants the game to see Duke taking a leak. I'll play it for myself to see if the Duke's all that or if he needs to just stay in the restroom and shut the door.
