Default Problem with custom install

Hi there,
i am currently playing around with some terminal servers. someone had the idea that maybe they will run faster if they have a good graphics card. so we buyed some old tnt2 alike boards.
but since the root filesystem is on the server, and mounted read only to the clients via nfs, there is no easy way to install the drivers.
i tried setting them up manually, but obviously is forgot something.
we use Mandrake 9.1, kernel 2.4.21
and nvidia driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.
This works fine on the server (geforce 4 something), but there i could use the install script.
The Server and the Clients are based on the same Distri and Kernel, so i thought i could copy all the things described in the Readme, lines 1053 to 1199, from the server to the clients, but it wont work, the error message is, when starting X with the option -query ip.add.re.ss :
-----------------------------
Module Loader present
...
Using vt 7
NV: Could not open control device /dev/nvidiactl (No such device)
(EE) NVIDIA(0) Failed to initialize kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0) *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

...
---------------------------
Maybe the driver wants to load something for the GF4, but there is only a tnt2 in this box ?!
The /dev/nvidiactl ist there, ist copied onto a ramdisk during boot.
All the files and symlinks, listed in the readme, are where they should be.
Has someone an idea?

Thanks a lot

bye
Buzz

Default

Hi again, now at least i am getting the nvidia spash screen, but right after that the Client crashes.

I managed to get so far with "modprobe -r nvidia" and in the /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/kernel/drivers/video/ "insmod ./nvidia.o"

Here is what the logs say to this:
http://fehlker.gmxhome.de/messages.txt
http://fehlker.gmxhome.de/syslog.txt
http://fehlker.gmxhome.de/XFree86.0.log.old.txt
http://fehlker.gmxhome.de/XFree86.0.log.txt

still hoping for a solution
thx
