Kernel bug and gdm launch failure with 2.6.39.1

Linux kernel 2.6.39.1 was just released. I get a freeze at boot and this in the message log. Using 275.09 driver.

Works for me.

Make sure 2.6.39 kernel works for you with the same .config.

It looks like the cause was the weekly gcc build I was using. The working 2.6.39 kernel was built with the previous weekly snapshot. I built 2.6.39.1 with gcc 4.6.0 and it works properly. I guess I'll stop building kernels with pre-release compilers.

Playing with GCC snapshots is a really bad idea to begin with.

BTW, did you use GCC branch or trunk snapshot to build 2.6.39.1 kernel? 'Cause if it was branch (4.6.1-pre) then surely you hit a bug which you ought to investigate and report.

I only test the weekly branch snapshots. I mainly build Firefox with it, which has been stable with prerelease compilers, so I've tried building kernels recently. The problem was with 4.6.1 20110527 but not with 4.6.1 20110520 or 4.6.0. I will see if it's still there in 20110603.
