To be fair AMD knew this would happen ATi is to help them in the long run but will hurt them in the short run. It's called forsight. They are now branching into other sectors with gfx and CPU's.

As for bulldozer i don't think it will be as fast as Sandy bridge i am expecting it to be as fast as the 1st Gen core i7's which is still pretty dam fast 20% faster then Phenom II's and in some cases more so it's a good start. As they are tweaking for higher clock speeds it may out pace sandy bridge but i would not expect them to hit much higher then Sandy's 5 or so GHz. So again Sandy will win there.

Right. But I think most people agree that the market is heading towards more parallel platforms, and processors that will essentially be adapted GPU's. With OpenCL becoming more prevalent, even Intel has noticed this and is working on improving Larrabee and its own graphics chips.

There's still a lot of life left in AMD and they haven't fully reaped the benefits of their ATI acquisition yet.

Did the laws of sales minus cost of goods sold = gross profit change in those 17 months Roadie?

Or is it still a pretty relevant example of AMD not just being able to just charge less for their chips and still be profitable.

Are you disputing that AMD sold their chips for less to compete for those years? Or that they lost money doing so?

See, I don't care about rumors on a cpu that isn't out. I also don't make rumor threads just so I can troll them and say so and so company sucks.

Again, you're missing the point and focusing on me, rather than the topic.

It's not "saying the company sucks" to say they lost money those quarters, or that them having to charge a lower cost per unit contributed to that.

I mentioned that because the person I was speaking to said "AMD can just price accordingly and still be profitable!".

That's not the case necessarily, and that is why I pointed out that doing so hadn't made them profitable for those three years.

That is why I hope the rumors about Bulldozer are false. When profit margin per unit is low, and market share is low, it's hard to compete.

Well over the years AMD's red zone in spending and profits are almost even so it's getting better for them but they don't have the spending power that Intel has. Hence they are branching out, they can't compete with Intel head on it's a losing battle you can not win.

Intel got kicked with the Athlon range and they are making sure that never happens again.

Yes they learned a hard lesson that efficiency trumps raw speed. However, I think they will get kicked again if these massively parallel chips (again, essentially modified GPU's) take off. Their Larrabee doesn't hold a candle to what AMD/ATI is capable of.

If true, this is most excellent news. There may actually be some bite to AMD's bark for Zambezi.

Seems that Bulldozer is around 10% slower in games then gulftown clock for clock so not bad but no sandybridge.
