I could see a high demand initially for 16 core server products...

and why build 8 core desktop variants with no margin....when you can build 16 core server variants with higher margins....

Many infos start to make think AMD FX series could well arrive the 22th of this month, shop and supply chanel give an ETA date the 22 september.

NewEgg is rumored ( from some forums source ) to see them available the 22.09..

This site give too an ETA the 22 september

In addition, many hardware supply chanel point the same date.

Ofc the ETA can be based on old informations, before the Bulldozer was delayed of 2 weeks, thoses sites offtly have automatic update and not update thoses information at this point, some other source point mid October for release.

And yet my original post looks to be all too true:

In all likelihood, though, AMD probably never intended to compete with Intel in terms of raw processing power
In any case, as noted, I like AMD and wish them success with these parts. If I did not already buy a 990X and a 2500K mobo this year, i may well have bought one of these for my second rig.

How about we wait for reviews before claiming anything indefinitely?

I don't think it's going to be faster than SB for many tasks, but for true multithreaded programs, for multitasking in general and most other apps I'm interested in, I expect it to be pretty damn competitive. I don't know why I should care if it turns out to be slower for Cinebench or Superpi...

Good post in the comment.

Charlie, I agree with most of your articles, but for this one, you're honestly off. He's not the architect of the CPUs or GPUs, don't worry, AMD will survive.

Like any captain, Rick was responsible for the delivery of the products, and HE DID NOT deliver. It was natural for the new CEO to change him. Rick didn't hold accountable many of the people involved in the CPU/APU for the delays, he did not manage properly the relationship with Global Foundries, not to mention a lack of vision or leadership. I just hope that more senior changes are to come at the head of AMD. FYI, internally, most perceive this change as positive.

What do you expect a guy who puts a roof over his family's head with an AMD paycheck to say?

"Oh noes! We are up the sh*t creek this time and there is no settlement with Intel or garage sale to the Middle East to help us out."?

I don't want AMD or ATi to go anywhere, but if Charlie is saying "WTF?" I'm going to assume the situation is worse than we know.
