I'm sticking with this P45 chipset... so no "official" sli for me
Please let me know how that works out. I might get adventurous and put 2 GTX 280 into my X38 mobo

For those of you interested I'm posting some preliminary results. I'll get a much more detailed thread up soon, I don't want to clutter this one though.

Install SHOULD have been easy... It wasn't because I have a messed up bootloader. Grub2 on my 500gb pointing at Ubuntu 10.04, windows, and back-track 4... On my 250gb I have a Grub1 bootloader pointing at Backtrack 4 and windows. When I tried to install the patch it kept saying "your computer is need to reboot." (the patch was written by russians originally) ... Anyway come to find out it's an issue with the windows partition seeing a foreign bootloader. I had to boot into a recovery CD and do "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" to wipe grub2 and it reinstalled my windows bootloader. So as it stands I only have windows, both of my linux partitions are inaccessible (I don't really care with SLI working!)

Rebooted, applied the patch, it worked just like it was a normal SLI supported system (I've installed 260's in SLI on an X58 before). My estimate is that with a normal windows boot and a non jacked-up bootloader it would have been a very simple install

PERFORMANCE:
I'm running this in an 8x/8x configuration for my pci-e lanes. So that hurts it a little, also my C2Q (yay thread relevance) is a little slow I think to power these cards... Unigine Heaven at full settings, 2560x1600 res.
30 fps with a single card
46 fps with sli

3dmark without 4212: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1439971?show...EydnM9zFaZbZXV
3dmark with sli 6523: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1439939;jses...5xxZZ3bzvv53ej

Much much more to follow.... overall though I feel like I got every cent out of this platform (775 in general) and this 2nd GTX 470 is especially worth it only costing me $170

My rigs honestly still kickin it. Just tried the Homefront demo and get about 62fps avg with all high. Not the prettiest game ever but not bad performance for a new game.

I just retired my Q6700 today in favor of a new i7 2600k. It still runs most games pretty well, main reason I upgraded though is because I wanted to get a new SATA3 motherboard to fully utilize a new Vertex 3 SSD, and on top of that I want to run skyrim at max when that comes out.

I'm surprised. It might be slower than other cpus, but it doesn't seem "slow" to me. I've had no problems playing that game on my sy stem

I've got 3 PCs set up right now...

1 - 1090T X6 (3.8 GHz)
1 - Q9400 (3.4 GHz)
1 - i7 920 (4.0 GHz)

The i7 shines in GTA:IV, Crysis, and Metro 2033 but, all 3 games are playable on all 3 systems.

The X6 trounces both Intel products when it comes to my development environment but that's simply the core count.

When it comes to everything else... there's really no noticeable difference across any of the systems.
